モデルとしてキャリアをスタートした山本奈衣瑠は、3年前より俳優へ転身。そして満を期して主演を務めた映画『猫は逃げた』が2022年3月より公開され、飼い猫カンタをどちらが引き取るかで揉める離婚直前の夫婦をチャーミングに演じた。

長編映画初主演、そして勢いのある今泉力哉監督による抜擢とのことで、結果を聞いたときはどうでしたか？
そもそも今泉監督の映画で主演をオーディションで決めるということに驚きました。演技経験も浅く名もない私にもそのチャンスがあるのか、と。なので決まったときはもちろんとても嬉しかったのですが、それとともに私の年齢や性別、今までしてきた仕事など"私"についた副産物ではなくて私自身を見てくれたんだなと思うと、作品に向き合う皆さんの気持ちも感じれてより嬉しかったです。

今こうしていろんな人に観てもらっているという状況をどう思っていますか？
とても不思議な気持ちです。
日々SNSを通していろいろな方から感想などを頂くのですが、撮影していた当時、私が演じた亜子さんに寄り添えたのはずっと自分ひとりだけだと思っていたのが、いろんな方々に亜子さんが寄り添ってもらえてるのを見てー自分なのか亜子さんなのか分からないですが、あぁ良かったなと思いました。安心したというか。

自分の可能性を信じられた瞬間を教えてください。
信じてると信じてないが紙一重と言うか…。常に信じてるけど、常に信じてないです。

チャレンジングだったことを教えてください。
知らないこと、経験がないことがほとんどだったので常にチャレンジしていました。
映画を作る流れを間近で見て、たくさんのプロフェッショナルな方々の力が合わさってひとつの作品が出来ているんだと実感しました。本当に素敵な方々ばかりでした。

Nairu Yamamoto started her career as a model, but switched to acting three years ago. And the film 'Neko wa Nigeta', in which she played the lead role, was released in March 2022. She charmingly plays a couple on the verge of divorce who are torn between which of them should take in their cat Kanta.

How did you feel when you heard the result, given that it was your first starring role in a feature film and that you were selected by the esteemed director Rikiya Imaizumi?
To begin with, I was surprised that the lead role in a film directed by Imaizumi was chosen by audition. I wondered if I, with no acting experience and no fame, would even get the chance. So of course I was very happy when the decision was made, but I was also happy to think that everyone saw me for who I am and not just a by-product of my age, gender or the jobs I've done in my life.

How do you feel that many people are watching the movie now?
It's a very strange feeling.
Every day I receive impression from various people on social media. When I was filming I thought I was the only one who could relate to Ako, the character I played, but when I see how many people do that to her - I don't know if it's me or her - that makes me so happy. I felt relieved.

Tell us about a moment when you believed in your own potential.
I would say there is a fine line between believing and not believing... I always believe, but I don't always believe.

Did you have a challenging moment while filming?
It was always a challenge because most of the things I didn't know and didn't have any experience in.
Seeing the process of making a film up close, I realised that a lot of professionals combined their strengths to make one film. They were all really wonderful people.

Music you listen to on day off: I'm a radio person, so I really only listen to music occasionally.
Favourite films: 'Don't Laugh at My Romance' 'Wolf Children'.
Places where you feel at home: my room and around my house.
