Victor Takeru is an artist born and raised in Paris, and he has roots in Nagoya in Japan and went back there for summer vacations. He moved to Tokyo late 2019 to develop his career in Japan. In his studio, there’re many canvas painted with bright pink, yellow, blue and green with energetic and positive vibes.

“When you see people and talk, you always look at their eyes. Eyes are strong parts to define people’s character and tell what you think. In my painting, all the eyes are closed. By doing do, you can focus on observe the person in a painting. What they wear, how they feel, what they think….“

His exhibition starts May 13 2021. Originally it was supposed to held mid January but it’s got cancelled because the pandemic. He got more time to prepare for the exhibition and he started to paint all the work from white canvas. “I don’t want to repeat same things again and again. I want to evolve every exhibition. For the exhibition, I painted portraits but next one would be different. Every exhibition is special that you can see only for each time.“

On his painting, cats is a symbolic character and they reflect himself. “I love to stay with people but at the same time, I love stay by myself and concentrate on painting. I found lots similarity with cats, and they’re fun to paint.“

ヴィクター・タケルはパリで生まれ育ったアーティスト。名古屋にもルーツを持ち、夏休みによく訪れていたというが、2019年の終わりにアーティストとしてのキャリアを磨くために東京に引っ越した。彼のスタジオには、ポジティブなエネルギー溢れるピンクやイエロー、ブルーやグリーンで彩られたキャンバスが並んでいた。

「人に会ったとき、話すとき、いつも目を見ると思うんだ。目ってその人の性格や感情をよく表すものだから。でも、僕の作品ではみんな目を瞑っている。目が閉じられていることによって、その人が着ている服にもっと注目したり、この人は何を感じているんだろう？考えているんだろう？って観察者は思いを巡らすことがよりできると思う。」

2021年5月13日から彼の展覧会がスタートする。もともと1月に行われるはずだったが、パンデミックにより延期になったところで空白期間ができたから、すべての作品を改めて真っさらなキャンバスから描き始めたという。「同じことを繰り返したくない、展覧会ごとに新しい自分を見せたい。今回はポートレートが中心だけど、次回はまったく違うことにトライするかも。ひとつひとつの展覧会をスペシャルでその場限りのものにしたいと思っている。」

彼の作品には猫がよく登場するが、それは彼自身を表したキャラクターだそう。「人といることも大好きだけど、ひとりでこうして絵を描く時間も大切にしてる。性格が猫に似てるなって思うし、描くのも楽しんだ。」
