Pieces of Yesterday

I look down and find my shoes covered in mud. For a moment, I forget they were ever red.
But beneath it all, they're still there. They always were. The story of finding myself again.

気づかないうちに、わたしの足もとは泥に覆われていた。赤い靴を履いていたことさえ、忘れていた。
泥を払うと、そこには変わらない赤があった。ずっと、そこにあったんだ。わたし自身に戻るための物語。

It seems like I spend all my time watching what's around me.
Watching, hoping to understand how the world works —
how people walk, how light reflects, how I can find my place in all this chaos...
I keep watching the changes, the comings and goings. I have nowhere to go, I think to myself.

The world grows bigger, and as I endlessly go around in circles, I feel smaller and smaller.
I wonder where this heaviness comes from.

I look down at my feet and realise they're covered in mud.
When did this happen?
Wasn't I wearing red shoes?

I wipe away the dirt and sigh with relief.
They're still there.

I stop looking around for a moment.
And suddenly, the world doesn't feel quite so big.
