Onree is a contemporary artist from NY who works mainly in ceramics and challenges the possibilities of ceramics by examining its history, anthropology and functional aspects. He talks about how he started and developed his ceramic art, and about the future of ceramic art.
NY出身の現代アーティストのonree。陶芸を中心に創作し、その歴史や人類学、"機能"面について考察しながら陶芸の可能性に挑戦する。2022年には個展やグループ展に参加し、2023年には東京を離れポルトガルに移住する予定という彼に、陶芸を志したきっかけやどう発展させていったか、また陶芸の将来について語ってもらった。
What slice of cake are you?
I am a worms and dirt cake.
A cup full of crushed Oreo and chocolate ice cream and chocolate cake mixed together, and there're gummy worms in it, and you eat it with a spoon.
Why is that me? Because we all have an ecosystem, and I think the cake has dirt, and all kinds of gummies live inside it. There're different types of fudge, Orea and soft cake, cream and all these layers. It has distinctive pieces and compiles other. They live symbiotically all together, but they're quirky.

土やみみずを模した、ダートケーキです。
アメリカ特有のお菓子で、砕いたオレオとチョコレートアイスとチョコレートケーキを混ぜたカップケーキ。中にミミズのようなグミが入っていて、それをスプーンで食べる。
なぜそれが僕らしいかって？なぜなら人間の世界のようにダートケーキにも複雑な生態系があるから。
土があって、オレオとファッジ、ソフトケーキ、クリームと、いろいろな"土"の層が重なっていて、その中にユニークな虫たちが住んでいる。みんなが共生しているんだけど、クセになっちゃうんだよね。

Born in New York. Contemporary mixed media artist. BFA in Art and Design with a minor in Philosophy from Alfred University. Focusing on ceramics, but also using a variety of media including music, painting, sculpture, writing, video, and photography.
ニューヨーク出身。陶芸を中心としたコンテンポラリー・ミクストメディア・アーティスト。アルフレッド大学でアートとデザインの学士号、副専攻として哲学を取得。陶芸のほかにも、音楽、絵画、彫刻、執筆、映像、写真など、様々な媒体を駆使して、常に創造の限界に挑んでいる。
